Colleagues from the British-Irish CADFEM collected a small presentation on the drop tests simulation in ANSYS with usage of LS-DYNA solver&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;From the marketing point everything is not even bad, but when I look at the quality of their FE models, corner of my eye starts to twitch.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In general, I now say the terrible idea for LS-DYNA evangelist. ANSYS Explicit STR product could be a better tool for simplest tasks of drop tests (as for example described in the present), :&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;ANSYS Explicit STR already goes under the license of ANSYS Mechanical Enterprise&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;can immediately run on 4 CPU cores&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;works with ANSYS HPC (Pack / Workgroup) licenses for parallelization&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;does not require long training of specialists&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;So that, ANSYS Explicit STR will be enough in case of simple drop test cases.&lt;/p&gt;
