Drop tests with ANSYS/LS-DYNA Colleagues from the British-Irish CADFEM collected a small presentation on the drop tests simulation in ANSYS with usage of LS-DYNA solver

From the marketing point everything is not even bad, but when I look at the quality of their FE models, corner of my eye starts to twitch.

In general, I now say the terrible idea for LS-DYNA evangelist. ANSYS Explicit STR product could be a better tool for simplest tasks of drop tests (as for example described in the present), :

• ANSYS Explicit STR already goes under the license of ANSYS Mechanical Enterprise
• can immediately run on 4 CPU cores
• works with ANSYS HPC (Pack / Workgroup) licenses for parallelization
• does not require long training of specialists

So that, ANSYS Explicit STR will be enough in case of simple drop test cases.
