Основополагающими работами для данного метода стали публикации Александра Хренникова “Solution of problems of elasticity by the framework method” в журнале Journal of applied mechanics и Ричарда Куранта “Variational methods for the solution of problems of equilibrium and vibrations” в Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society.
